About Me
I’m Matthew Brown, a Texas based composer, musician, and educator.
I found my passion for writing music during the freshman year of my undergraduate degree. At this time in my life, I was only a music minor, as I was frightened of committing to being a music major. Though I wasn’t yet a music major, my advisors new that I was considering this option, so they suggested that I take all of the first year music courses. This is ending up being some of the best guidance I could have ever received, as it started me down the track that would lead me to where I am today: an alumni of the University of The Incarnate Word where I received a Bachelor of Music in Composition, and a graduate student at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas working towards my Master of Music in Composition.
When I first began my master’s degree, my position as a graduate assistant gave me the opportunity to help other students by serving as the tutor for music theory and aural skills. This tutoring position later blossomed into a teaching position, where I had the privilege of serving as instructor of record for Musicianship III and Music Theory I.
