Electronic Music
One of the classes offered at UIW while I was completing my undergraduate degree was electronic composition lessons with Dr. Zackery Wilson. You wouldn’t suspect from such a small school, but UIW has a SUPERB electronic composition lab, with amazing equipment and software. With this, and the coaching of Dr. Wilson, I was able to explore the realm of electronic composition, ultimately resulting in the three pieces below being presented on my degree recital.
Music Concrete
In my undergraduate composition seminar, one of our tasks was to see if we could find inspiration by using recorded sounds. I went around the music building recording everyday sounds such as the elevator button/ding and the HVAC system that was always so loud in our lecture hall. This was the result.
Electroacoustic Music
During my time taking electronic composition lessons, I also wrote this electroacoustic piece called Something New that features a solo clarinet playing along with a tape playback.
